Brihadeeswarar Temple

Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu

Tradition holds that prayer before the giant linga and a full pradakshina of the vast prakaram eases planetary and karmic burdens. Devotees seeking relief from doshas sponsor abhishekam to Brihadeeswarar and light lamps before the great Nandi.

Chamundeshwari Temple

Mysuru, Karnataka

Chamundi is Mahishasura Mardini, the Shakti who ends what oppresses, and devotees traditionally bring planetary afflictions, obstacles and fear of the evil eye to her. The temple's own remedy sevas are the Chandika Homa, which can be booked online, abhisheka on Fridays, and the offering of a saree to the goddess. Climbing the thousand steps as a vow and darshan on an Ashada Friday are believed to be especially powerful. Tradition holds that she fulfils the desires of those who come to her sincerely.

Kashi Vishwanath Temple

Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh

Kashi is the place where devotees believe accumulated karma is shed. People troubled by planetary doshas or long-running misfortune bathe in the Ganga, carry its water to the temple and pour it on the Jyotirlinga, and sponsor Rudrabhishek. Tradition holds that what is offered to Vishwanath in Kashi carries many times its usual weight.

Kedarnath Temple

Kedarnath, Uttarakhand

As a Jyotirlinga, Kedarnath is visited for relief from karmic burdens and planetary afflictions, especially Saturn-related troubles. Devotees offer ghee abhishekam on the lingam and perform Rudrabhishekam in their name.

Ramanathaswamy Temple

Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu

Rameswaram is where Rama himself sought release from the sin of killing a Brahmin, Ravana. Devotees believe that a sea bath at Agni Theertham followed by a bath in all 22 theerthams inside the temple washes away karmic burdens and doshas. Many also perform rites for their ancestors here before darshan.

Somnath Temple

Somnath, Gujarat

Because the Moon himself is believed to have been freed of his curse here, devotees bring horoscope troubles to Somnath, especially those linked to Chandra and the planets. The Somnath Trust performs Kalsarpa Yog Nivaran Vidhi, Navagraha jap and Rudrabhishek on behalf of devotees, in person or by proxy.

Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple

Yadagirigutta, Telangana

Tradition holds that Narasimha removes the troubles caused by doshas and negative forces. Families perform the Satyanarayana Swamy vratham at the temple's vratha peetham or offer archana in their names, seeking the Lord's protection.

Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple

Srisailam, Andhra Pradesh

Because a Jyotirlinga and a Shakti Peetha stand together here, devotees come to Srisailam to seek relief from doshas and hardships through abhishekam to Mallikarjuna Swamy and kumkum archana to Bhramaramba Devi.

Sri Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple

Simhachalam, Andhra Pradesh

Narasimha is approached as the fierce protector who saved Prahlada. Devotees believe that praying to him here, especially on Narasimha Jayanti or while walking the Giri Pradakshina, helps clear obstacles and afflictions.
