Legend

According to the Skanda Purana, Yada, the son of sage Rishyasringa, did penance on this hill, and Lord Narasimha appeared to him in five forms: Jvala Narasimha, Gandabherunda Narasimha, Yogananda Narasimha, Ugra Narasimha and Lakshmi Narasimha. The hill took its name from the sage, Yadagiri, and devotees revere it as the home of all five forms.

Why this temple matters

The original shrine is a cave about 12 ft high and 30 ft long, where Jvala Narasimha appears in a serpent-like form and Yogananda Narasimha sits in meditation. The temple follows the Tenkalai Vaishnava tradition. Between 2016 and 2022 it was rebuilt in black Krishna sila stone at a cost of about ₹1,800 crore, growing from 2 acres to about 16, with seven gopurams and pillars of the twelve Alvars. It reopened on 28 March 2022.
