Legend

Sai Baba arrived in Shirdi as a young fakir around 1858 and lived there for sixty years, sleeping in a disused mosque he called Dwarkamai and keeping a sacred fire, the dhuni, whose ash, udi, he gave to the sick. He taught 'Sabka Malik Ek', one God for all, and was revered by Hindus and Muslims alike. He took mahasamadhi on 15 October 1918, on Vijayadashami, and was laid to rest in the stone wada built by his devotee Gopalrao Booty, which became the Samadhi Mandir.

Why this temple matters

Shirdi is one of the most visited pilgrimage towns in India, run by the Shri Saibaba Sansthan Trust. The Samadhi Mandir holds Baba's marble image above his tomb; around it lie Dwarkamai with the ever-burning dhuni, the Chavadi where he slept on alternate nights, Gurusthan under the neem tree where he was first seen, and Lendi Baug where he watered plants. Four aartis a day structure the pilgrimage, and the trust runs free meals and hospitals in his name.

What devotees pray for here

Health & Healing

Baba is remembered as a healer who gave udi from the dhuni to the sick. Devotees take udi home for family members who are ill, sit through the aartis and vow to return after recovery; many bring the recovered person back to offer thanks.

Peace & Family Harmony

People in distress sit in Dwarkamai or before the samadhi with Baba's 'Shraddha and Saburi', faith and patience. The daily aartis, the free meals and the quiet of Lendi Baug are sought for calm after loss, debt or family trouble.

Festivals

  • Ramnavami (March–April): three-day festival with the sack of wheat procession
  • Guru Purnima (July): the day devotees honour Baba as guru
  • Vijayadashami, Punyatithi (September–October): the anniversary of Baba's mahasamadhi, the largest gathering
  • Thursdays through the year: the weekly special day with the palanquin procession

Poojas & rituals

  • Attending Kakad, Madhyan, Dhoop and Shej aartis
  • Abhishek pooja and Satyanarayan pooja booked through the Sansthan
  • Offering of flowers and a shawl at the samadhi
  • Receiving udi from Dwarkamai
  • Annadan: sponsoring free meals in the prasadalaya

Personal predictions for your own birth chart, pooja booking and prasad delivery are in the SantoBaba app.
